Oliver Heldens: From Bedroom Producer to International Sensation

Oliver Heldens, the 25-year-old Dutch DJ and electronic dance music (EDM) producer, has captivated audiences around the world with his infectious beats and unique sound. But behind the high-energy music and electrifying performances lies a hardworking and passionate artist.

Born in Rotterdam in 1995, Heldens grew up surrounded by music. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a singer, instilling a love of music in him from a young age. He began experimenting with music production at the age of 16, inspired by the likes of Daft Punk and other electronic dance music pioneers.

Heldens gained recognition in 2013 with his first EP, “Stinger” on the Spinnin’ Records label, which featured his signature “future house” sound. His breakout track, “Gecko,” released in 2014, shot him to global fame, quickly racking up millions of plays and establishing him as a major player in the EDM world.

Since then, Heldens has continued to push the boundaries of electronic dance music, releasing hits like “Last All Night (Koala)” (2014), “Melody” (2015), and “I Don’t Wanna Go Home” (2017).

But Heldens is not content to rest on his laurels. In addition to his busy touring schedule and releasing new music, he has taken on multiple projects to give back to the EDM community and beyond.

In 2019, Heldens launched his own record label, OH2 Records, to help support up-and-coming artists in the genre. “I started OH2 Records to help support the fresh new talent that is out there. I want to help them break into the scene and see their careers grow,” he said.

Heldens has also been outspoken about his struggles with mental health, sharing his experiences in a keynote speech at the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2019. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing well-being and good communication in the industry and has partnered with the Tim Bergling Foundation to support mental health initiatives.

Heldens’ charitable efforts extend to other causes as well. He has produced multiple charity events and donated proceeds to organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation.

Despite his many accomplishments, Heldens remains grounded and focused on his music. “For me, the most important thing is just creating music that’s authentic to me and resonates with people. Everything else is just a bonus,” he says.

As he continues to tour the world and release new music through OH2 Records, fans can look forward to experiencing his unique sound and high-energy performances for years to come.
