Festivals without access to drinking water now prohibited

A new bill in Amsterdam has been passed, meaning festivals have to provide free water in order to receive a license.

Amsterdam City Council made the decision after various festival-goers had complained about security measures regarding the access to water at festivals in the city.

The decision means that unlimited tap water must be available on-site, with the law going into effect at the end of this year.

Speaking after the decision, council member Daniel van der Ree said: “We’re talking about festival goers on a closed-off terrain that who are usually exercising enormous efforts in the burning sun.

“This group of people should be optimally protected from the dangers of dehydration or fatigue and should thus have unlimited access to free drinking water.”
