DJ Nero: The Bronx Native Turning Up the New York House Music Scene

Hector Rodriguez, better known as DJ Nero, has been a fixture in the New York City house music community for the last two decades. Born and raised in the Bronx, Rodriguez began DJing as a teenager and quickly developed a love for the music that would shape his career.

It wasn’t until the early 2000s that Nero’s star really began to rise. He had honed his skills at clubs throughout the city but it was at the legendary Paradise Garage that he found his true calling. Nero’s unique blend of house, disco, funk, and soul resonated with the club’s diverse crowd, and his hypnotic, long-form sets quickly became the stuff of legend.

Word of Nero’s talent spread quickly, and he was soon playing at parties and events all across the city. His mixtapes, which were circulated by hand in the pre-digital days, became hot commodities among music fans and DJs alike.

In 2005, Nero released his first official mix CD, “Soulful House Grooves,” which showcased his eclectic tastes and expert mixing skills. The album was a hit with both critics and fans, and helped to solidify Nero’s place as one of the most exciting young DJs on the scene.

Since then, Nero has continued to make his mark in the house music world. He’s performed at countless clubs, festivals, and events across the city, bringing his unique sound and style to audiences around the world.

Through it all, Nero has remained committed to the music and to the community that has embraced him. His passion for house music has not waned, and his desire to create a sense of belonging and inclusivity through his sets continues to inspire new generations of music fans.

As he looks to the future, Nero is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. He’s always searching for new sounds and inspirations, and remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the house music world.
