Robert Babicz may not be a household name like some of his peers in the world of electronic music, but among fans and connoisseurs, he’s widely regarded as one of the most innovative and experimental DJs on the scene today.

Born in Cologne, Germany in 1973, Babicz has been making music since his teenage years. He got his start in the early ’90s in Berlin, where he quickly made a name for himself as a producer and techno innovator.

But it’s Babicz’s approach to DJing that really sets him apart. Unlike many of his contemporaries who rely on pre-made beats and samples to create their music, Babicz builds his own beats and synthesizers from scratch. He calls himself a “technologist” first and a DJ second, and it’s this unconventional approach to the art of DJing that has earned him a devoted following of fans around the world.

“People come to my shows because they know they’re going to hear something they’ve never heard before,” Babicz says. “I don’t just play tracks off a playlist – I’m constantly building and manipulating my machines to create new sounds on the fly.”

Babicz’s live sets are dynamic and unpredictable, with his self-built synthesizers constantly shifting and evolving to create new sounds and textures. “I never know what I’m going to play next,” he says. “I just follow the energy of the crowd and let the music take me where it wants to go.”

Despite his unconventional approach, Babicz has managed to build a successful career on his own terms. He’s released multiple albums over the years and has played at some of the biggest clubs and festivals in Europe and Asia. But for Babicz, the music is always the most important thing.

“I’m not interested in fame or fortune,” he says. “I just want to create the best music I can and share it with others.”

Babicz has also been active in the music scene as a sound designer, creating custom sounds and presets for software synthesizers and other music production tools. His innovative sounds have been used in a variety of media projects, from movies to television shows.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Babicz has remained active in the music scene by hosting live streams and releasing new tracks throughout 2020 and 2021. And with his unbridled creativity and passion for experimentation, there’s no telling where his machines will take him next.
