Fatboy Slim: Skrillex is going to stick around longer than dubstep
The legend himself, Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim considers himself a great admirer of Skrillex. In a recent interview he said: “I love Skrillex! The first time I met Skrillex, he just came right up to me really drunk and said, “You’re the reason I started DJing.” I have a lot of pride in things like that. He really reminds me of myself fifteen years ago and I think he is very talented."
America's most loved and hated dubstep DJ and producer shows no signs of slowing down, as he's nominated in 3 categories (head here for more information). The particular flavor of Skrillex has given ground to a massive fanbase as well as a large crowd of haters. As dubstep's prime time seems to be passing, Fatboy Slim reckons Sonny Moore will stay: "I think Skrillex will probably be around long after dubstep,"
As for today's trends, Cook commented: "The best records at the moment are more deep house. Jamie Jones, Solomun and stuff like that. I think the cooler heads now think ‘dubstep, that’s just TV commercial stuff. Muse are doing it now, so we’ll move onto something a bit cooler,’"
Of course, the Brighton's favorite DJ is probably quite right. Dubstep has crossed over to mainstream, even Muse has given it a shot on their latest album. Check out the popular alternative rock band's attempt at dubstep-apocalypsy!
